Dhaka University's Department of Criminology, in collaboration with "Kaan Petey Rai," has organized a workshop together.
In this regard, the Department collaborated with the non-governmental organization "Sajida Foundation" and the affiliate organization "Swojon" of "Kaan Petey Roi" to conduct this workshop. The event featured honorable guest speaker, Professor Shaharia Afrin, Chairperson of the Department of Criminology, Bristi Suzon Gomez, a worker at Sajida Foundation, and Labiba Maliyat and Ashik Abdullah Shuvro, members of the administrative team of "Kaan Petey Roi." Also present were students from different years of the Criminology Department. During the workshop, the students were informed about the initiatives and activities of "Kaan Petey Roi" and "Swojon." They discussed various aspects of mental health, including common misconceptions and stigmas related to mental health and suicide, as well as the importance of seeking help when needed. Professor Shaharia Afrin expressed her gratitude to the organizers, staff, and volunteers. She emphasized that just as physical health is crucial, mental health also requires equal attention. The lack of awareness about mental health is prevalent worldwide, and she called on everyone to come forward and work to eliminate the stigma and misconceptions associated with mental health. Professor Afrin also encouraged everyone to provide mental health services to every individual, and she conveyed her hope that the students would actively participate in the field of mental health and contribute to creating an environment where mental health services are readily available. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mental health, fight stigma and misconceptions, and promote mental health services. It concluded with support and appreciation for the participants, especially the students who actively engaged in the initiative.
