A seminar titled "Importance in Medical Examination and Documentation in Criminal Investigation" was organized
The seminar, held on Monday, took place under the leadership of Professor Shahariya Afrin, the departmental chairperson, and featured Dr. Zia Rahman, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, as the chief guest. Dr. P.M. Bhujang, Emeritus President of the Association of Hospitals in India, presented the main article and participated in the discussion, as did A.K.M. Nahidul Islam, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Bangladesh Police. The seminar explored various aspects of crime investigation, focusing on the significance of medical examinations and documentation in criminal investigation. In his keynote speech, Dr. P.M. Bhujang emphasized the importance of medical examinations and documentation in crime investigation. He stressed that the lack of concrete evidence makes it impossible to achieve a just resolution of countless criminal cases. He informed the audience about the similarities and disparities in India's legal and justice system and their limitations. He highlighted the need for a coordinated effort among the police, investigators, forensic specialists, and all relevant parties to ensure effective and impartial investigations. He provided insights into the various modern medical examination techniques required for a thorough and realistic investigation. He also discussed their practices and efficiency. DIG A.K.M. Nahidul Islam spoke about the history of crime investigation in Bangladesh, emphasizing the long and complex journey from the past to the present. He raised the issue of the apathy and mutual blame culture prevalent among various branches of the legal system in Bangladesh. He further underlined the need for medical examinations, methods, and technological advancements in modern crime investigation. He called upon the students to have a clear understanding of the critical role of medical examinations and documentation in solving crimes. In her closing remarks, Chairperson Shahariya Afrin thanked the distinguished guests, respected teachers, students, and everyone present at the Criminology Department. She expressed her gratitude for their contributions to the field of forensic and medical examinations, emphasizing the vital role that students will play in various fields of forensic science and forensic medical examinations. She encouraged students to have deep knowledge and expertise in forensic science, forensic examinations, and medical examinations to lead in all fields with determination in the future. The seminar concluded with an interactive session where students in attendance actively participated by asking various thought-provoking questions, demonstrating their keen interest in the discussed topics.
